Week 5 had all the intrigue that makes the NFL a truly entertaining league. The Eagles kept the international drama going in London, leaving the Jaguars with 11 seconds for Cam Little to knock in a 57-yarder. A Marvin Harrison Jr. trade was teased heading into the weekend, only to be announced by the Texans’ head coach, DeMeco Ryans, as a mic drop moment. Never a dull moment in the NFL. But before we get to Week 6, I want to look back at Week 5 and see what I got right and what I got wrong. There is no point in aimlessly making start/fade/sleeper decisions if I’m not learning from my mistakes. Here’s last week’s start/sit article for reference.

ECR ➡️ Based on the Expert Consensus Rankings at FantasyPros ahead of each week’s games.

ACTUAL ➡️ Based on PPR scoring.

FANTASY POINT DIFFERENCE ➡️ The difference between the player's Actual and the player who finished at that week's ECR. Example) +1.5 points means the player finished 1.5 points higher/better than the player at that week's ECR.

✅ Hit ➡️ ≥ 2.0 points in the right direction — Example) +2.0 points for a “START”

❌ Miss ➡️ ≥ 2.0 points in the wrong direction — Example) -2.0 points for a “START”

🤷‍♂️ / 🚑 Wash / Injury ➡️ < 2.0 points plus or minus — Example) -1.0 points for a “START”

QUARTERBACKS

START

Jacoby Brissett (ARI) v. DET 🤷‍♂️

  • ECR 6 v. Actual QB-6

  • Fantasy Point Difference: +0.0 points

This ended up exactly as expected. If you started Brissett, you weren’t disappointed, with the Cardinals putting up 21 points against the Lions.

FADE

Bo Nix (DEN) @ LAC ✅

  • ECR 11 v. Actual QB-27

  • Fantasy Point Difference: -14.8 points

Denver had no real passing attack, and it showed in Nix’s fewest passing yards of the season. This has been a disappointing season for both Nix and Justin Herbert, and this one was the right call for Week 5.

SLEEPER

Jameis Winston (NYG) @ WAS ✅

  • ECR 24 v. Actual QB-7

  • Fantasy Point Difference: +14.6 points

This was the right call, with Winston putting together his best fantasy week this season. Winston diced up the Commanders' defense and led Malik Nabers and Isaiah Likely to tremendous fantasy weeks as well.
